Imperial College Data Science Society

Harnessing the skills and creativity of data scientists at Imperial College London

Who We Are

The Imperial College Data Science Society (ICDSS) is an opportunity for students to engage with and learn about Data Science. Data science which encompasses computer science and mathematics–specifically Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI), statistics, and their applications toward solving problems in various domains–has been one of the hottest topics in the second half of this decade.

Bringing the future to you

Building a Community

With a student reach across all departments, the ICDSS serves to bring together Imperial’s diverse and passionate data science community. ICDSS aims to harness the skills and creativity of Imperial’s most talented students to become the UK’s leading assemblage of data scientists and entrepreneurs.

Bridging the Gap

Being the departmental society of the Imperial College Data Science Institute and with a student reach across all major departments, ICDSS’s goal is to equip students from all disciplines with key data science skills and bridge the gap between industry and academia. The talents we develop help meet the high demands of various industries for data scientists. We do this by providing students with industry insights, skill development workshops, Hackathons, and projects to practice the art of data science.

What We Offer

Our workshop series cover various topics including data analysis, data visualisation, machine learning, and Python programming. Over the course of the last two years, we achieved a cumulative attendance of over 1200 students.

We host the AI Hack annually. AI Hack is the largest student-led AI Hackathon in the UK with more than 200 participants including students from other top universities in the UK. Stay tuned for more updates for AI Hack 2024!

We also organise Datathons together with companies. Our first this year is the IBM Datathon on 21st October 2023.

Members may take part in analytics projects, which provides hands-on data science experience for students to tackle real-world problems and build portfolios of high impact projects.
